During the week of Jan. 7-13, Hawaii Island police arrested 25 motorists for drunken driving. Five of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.

During the week of Jan. 7-13, Hawaii Island police arrested 25 motorists for drunken driving. Five of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.

The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, 11; South Hilo, 5; South Kohala, 4; Puna, 3; Hamakua and North Kohala, 1 each.

So far this year, there have been 44 DUI arrests compared to 45 during the same period last year, an decrease of 2.2 percent.

There have been 37 major accidents so far this year compared to 47 during the same period last year, a decrease of 21.3 percent.

So far this year, there has been one traffic fatality on Hawaii Island compared to none during the same period last year.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.
